Historic Beltline Tour
Proposal
The Williams Woodland Park Neighborhood has received a Best Practices Neighborhood Initiative grant through Leadership Fort Wayne, Inc., the City of Fort Wayne and High Performance Government Network and will use HUD funds to complete a project we hope will ultimately benefit all residents, businesses and organizations on the south side of Fort Wayne.
A history walk with dedicated markers in front of homes and supportive signage offers physical proof to real estate agents and potential homebuyers that we are affordable, beautiful and safe front-porch communities. A rebranding campaign gives us a chance to develop relationships with the real estate community and partner with like-minded organizations. Creating, maintaining and extending the history walk into sister neighborhoods gives us a chance to work together on internal issues like crime and disengaged landlords and renters. Completing this project will build on the hard work of neighbors before us and will lay the groundwork for future partnerships and projects that lie ahead.

Proposed Stops on the Tour
The Beltline Trolley ran south down Calhoun Street and west across Creighton Avenue to bring residents from the edge of town to downtown businesses. It is credited with aiding in the economic development of this area of the city and the subsequent construction of the beautiful structures in our neighborhood. The stops below are recommendations from the Historic Preservation Board of the City of Fort Wayne, connected by a logical path. Currently we have funding for roughly 35 of the 40 stops listed below. We hope to make up the difference with contributions from private residents, businesses and the Williams Woodland Park Neighborhood Association. If you would like to contribute, please contact Justin Vedder.
